Kingsman: The Golden Circle

After the long wait of two years, Kingsman has finally returned to theaters with an anticipated sequel. Filled with thrill and action, the trailer hyped up many fans all over the world. Especially with the addition of Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, and Pedro Pascal to the cast of the sequel, the movie seemed it would become a gigantic hit.
Sadly, soon after the movie was released, it was spammed with low ratings and negative reviews. Many stated that the entire plot was gory, stretched out, and over-sexualized. Despite these reactions, I decided to watch the movie myself and judge it from my perspective.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle begins was an action-packed scene with Eggsy Unwin (Taron Egerton) against Charlie Hesketh (Edward Holcroft), who miraculously survived the accident with Valentine in the original movie. I would have enjoyed a cliche moment where Charlie tells Eggsy how he surprisingly survived, but this scene was left out. Afterwards, when Eggsy is in Sweden, the Kinsman headquarters are destroyed because of Charlie. I disliked how quickly the producers killed Roxy (Sophie Cookson) at the introductory section of the movie. Not only was she Eggsy's friend, she also played a large role in the first movie and I would have enjoyed seeing more of her character.
Poppy Adams (Julianne Moore) was a little disappointing throughout the movie, even though she played the role of the villain mastermind. From beginning to end, she humiliates John Elton (John Elton) and enjoys torturing and killing anyone who disobey her. I was disgusted and shocked when she created a burger out of man-meat and forced her henchman to eat it. Towards the end of the movie, Poppy did not play a big role in stopping the agents and eventually died without a grand fight.
The relationship between Eggsy and Princess Tilde was very unexpected, but I enjoy their humorous conversations and heartfelt actions. Sadly, their relationship was strained when Eggsy plays out a mission in a tent with Charlie's ex-girlfriend, Clara, (Poppy Delevigne) and a tiny tracker. During this scene, I understood why multiple people believe this movie to be over-sexualized. I did enjoy the sudden plot-twist when Eggsy finds out Princess Tilde has the blue rash, which is caused by a poison in the drugs sold by Poppy. This event leads to amplifying Eggsy's desperate needs to find and deploy the cure.
On the final mission to Poppy Land, located in Cambodia, one of the Kingsman's loyal and friendly agent dies to save Eggsy and Henry. Merlin (Mark Strong) takes the place on a landmine in place of Eggsy. I may or may not have shed a couple tears... With vengeance in their hearts, Henry and Eggsy go against Poppy's entire company, with results in an extremely gory battle with machine guns, robotic dogs, robots, and heroin (This scene is rather gory as well.) John Elton, who was held in captivity, fights against some henchmen in a hilarious battle and wins! After the battle with Poppy, the remaining Kingsmen agents battle with Whiskey, a stateman agent who wants all drug users to accept their consequences. Luckily, Whiskey is killed in a disturbing manner and the world is saved from a massive genocide.
Overall, the movie was not terrible, but it wasn't the best product I have seen. There are multiple disturbing scenes along with a terrible use of drugs, but contrary to the low ratings, I believe this was a funny movie with a lot of vulgar languages. I also believe the produced could have improved the plot by adding more informing scenes and filling up some character holes. For example, we never figured out the motive behind Poppy's idea to murder drug-users (unless it was for money). I would recommend this to those who enjoy adult comedy movies. I would not recommend it to those who have not experienced bloody scences or to those under the age of fifteen or sixteen.
